HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!To my beautiful wife!
Happy 66th Anniversary to my Grandma and Grandpa Gabry!

2.10.2010

Some of you may have seen the work I've completed for my good buddy Rod at SnoLoha over the past few years. But you've never seen it like THIS...

As Rod Call drove north and left the 45th Parallel sign behind him, he leaned over to the passenger seat of his Jeep and scribbled on a Rolling Stone magazine, "Somewhere Between the Islands and the Arctic", and thus the SnoLoha brand was born. The .pdf file above is an attempt to make my designs created for SnoLoha more visible. Take a look, let me know what you think.

ALSO, be sure to check back for new, exciting SnoLoha graphics and designs. Rod loves to keep me busy (OR, is it the other way around?).

LOCKHART'S BBQ is finally under construction in downtown Royal Oak, MI.
AND, their new logo is complete (hope y'all like it). Lockhart's plans to open in May/June 2010.

The gang at Lockhart's will be dedicated to serving authentic southern BBQ.
It sounds delicious. And, I can not wait. Be sure to check them out on FACEBOOK.

Later this year Warrior will be releasing a new glove to the general public, but here’s a sneak peek...

The Warrior Wrath will be available for you to purchase this fall, but they released images of the glove last week (which means I can show them to you).
Team USA will be putting on the gloves this summer at the 2010 World Lacrosse Championships in England. Be sure to check out the Warrior Wrath, and some of the other cool stuff I designed for Warrior in the Product Design portion of my PORTFOLIO.

215! I've been on this Thursday night bowling league with the Head Bangin' Billy Goats for almost three years...
Every Thursday you can find me at Luxury Lanes in Ferndale, eating delicious pizza, sipping ice cold beer.

After coming SO CLOSE to bowling a coveted 200 game multiple times these past few years, I finally got it.
A 215 that consisted of 6 strikes and 5 spares. Closing out each frame. YiPPEE.

COMING SOON to a store near you...

Named in honor of the Detroit urban legend, Detroit Dwarf is a delicious 6.8% ABV Zwickel/Keller/Landbier that recently took the gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival. Be sure look for it in the next few months... Pick up a 6 pack, and let me know what you think of the new logo, label, and package.

SUSU, R and R and R received it's first review today...
7.5! Not too shabby brother.

BE sure to read the review HERE. Highlights include, but are not limited to; "Susu is tighter than a Jersey Shore guido's abs." and "R and R and R, is a provocative musical statement that will command you to attention with all the authority of a drill sergeant on acid." R and R and R won't be available 'til February 2nd, but you can download "M.B.T.", the third track on the record. You can download the track HERE or HERE or HERE.

Also, check out the cover art, created by NY artist and good friend Matthew Craven.
Mr. Cravens work was also recently featured on one of my favorite sites Changethethought.

Headed to Ford Field? Well, even if you don't enjoy the outcome of the Lions game, at least you can enjoy the beer...

The Detroit Beer Co. recently gave me the opportunity to design their new kiosks and draft boxes, which are now located throughout Ford Field.

NEW! SnoLoha's branding and marketing collateral package is complete...

In addition to the e mail signature above, new business cards, letterhead, envelopes were all part of entrepreneur Rod Call's focus on updating SnoLoha in 2010.

A note from Rod Call, Purveyor & Explorer of the SnoLoha lifestyle:
"We were trying to go for something that was laid-back and fun, yet professional and classy…and at the same time incorporated the elements that make up Snoloha (the varying climates and activities that make up this lifestyle we all enjoy). That was not an easy task. Joe nailed it with his “layered” idea. After all, there are a number of layers to Snoloha. So moving forward we can switch out images in order to fully capture the essence of Snoloha. The branding will not be static and boring…the logo will always be the same of course, as will the overall look and feel…but the ability to change up imagery is very cool."

12.15.2009

Finally...
The Warrior Sports section of my GRAPHICS portfolio has been updated. Over the past 3 1/2 years I have had the opportunity to create multiple logos, and graphics for Warrior Sports. This includes the Warrior Sports - Monster Energy Chop Shop. A cross promotion between Warrior Sports and Monster Energy, the 20' x 10' Chop Shop made it's debut at the 2009 MLL All Star Game.

12.13.2009

Last day at Warrior. THANK YOU for three and a half great years.

12.7.2009

BOY!, oh boy...

12.1.2009

THANK YOU...
Because of your generous donations, you have helped me to raise over $1,000 for MOvember 2009. This is an incredible achievement, AND means that for the second year, I am an official member to the prestigious MOvember Platinum Club.

MOvember, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation would like to sincerely thank you for your support. The money you have raised will help find a cure prostate and testicular cancer.

11.20.2009

Don't forget we are BOWLING FOR MOVEMBER on Friday, the 27th...

Special thanks to the BOYNE COUNTRY SPORTS, MOOSEJAW, THE ROYAL OAK BREWERY, WARRIOR SPORTS and all of our sponsors for donating some really great prizes this year. $20 at the door could most certainly pay off in more ways than one... Not only do you get to bowl, and eat pizza, and have a great time, but we will be raffling off multiple gift cards to multiple places, t shirts, hats, a ski vacation for two at Boyne Mountain or Boyne Highlands (you choose). AND, and autographed goalie stick generously donated by future Hockey Hall of Framer CHRIS OSGOOD.

If you can't make the party, but would like to donate, click this link http://us.movember.com/mospace/289968/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account.

11.1.2009

FOR THE SECOND YEAR, I'm growing a mustache for MOvember...
I have decided to join a global movement that is bringing much needed attention to cancers that affect men.  I’m doing this by growing a Moustache this MOvember, the month formerly known as November. My commitment is to grow a moustache all November and I am hoping that you will support my efforts by making a donation.  The funds raised go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LIVESTRONG).

What many people don’t know is that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 18-35.  Facts like these have convinced me I should get involved.

Last year I raised over $1200, and our team (the MOtown MOfia) raised over $5000. PLEASE donate, so we can meet our goal and double that total.
To make a donation, you can either:

•    Click this link http://us.movember.com/mospace/289968/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account , or
•    Write a check payable to ‘MOvember Foundation’, referencing my Registration Number 289968 and mailing it to: MOvember Foundation, PO Box 2726, Venice, CA 90294-2726.

All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation will use the money raised by MOvember to fund research to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation will use the money raised by MOvember to fund:

•    The LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance program which has the goal of improving survival rates and quality of life for young adults with cancer between the ages of 15 and 40.
•    Research initiatives to further understand the biology of adolescent and young adult cancers.

For more details on how the funds raised from previous campaigns have been used and the impact MOvember is having please go to http://us.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

Thank you

Today I met one of my hero's, GLEN PLAKE.

Glen Plake is a figure in American Freestyle skiing and extreme sports. He is widely thought of as the father of extreme sports. He is known for his appearance in ski films such as Greg Stumps The Blizzard of Aahhhs, and for his trademark Mohawk hairstyle. Plake was involved in the up rise of extreme skiing in America, being one of the pioneers.

He is a BAD ASS,and a real nice guy. Thanks to my good friend Rob for the early 1990's model K2 EXTREME ski.

10.30.2009

One of my Warrior projects, the Nation Hitman Shoulder Pad has been featured in the Coroflot.
Everyday thousands of new images get uploaded to Coroflot, and only a handful are featured, so (they tell me) it's kind of a big deal...

That 7th Annual Wiffle Ball Unvitational (a.k.a. The Greatest Saturday of the Year)...

After years of talk, planning, traveling, and bar hopping, ECLECTIC is now happening...
Be sure to check out the new web site, www.theeclecticunderground.com (coming soon) and find them on Facebook.

Along with the web site, I will be helping the guys at ECLECTIC with a few t shirt designs (like the one above)... SO, buy some t shirts.

6.6.2009

Celebrate Frank's birthday at the Detroit Beer Co.
OR just enjoy his goofy picture on their new promotional poster...

6.3.2009

NEW! Graphics for my buddy Rod at SnoLoha. Here's a sneak peak...

6.1.2009

There is NO excuse for how lazy I have been regarding the updates to my web site...
However, if you are reading this and actually care, you can always learn more about me on FACEBOOK.

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE at the Royal Oak Music Theater... INSANE!
I had NO idea what to expect, I have no idea what they do, or how they do it. The boys from Baltimore feature pretty instrumentals with irritating noise. They invented a new way to integrate sing-along melodies, sticky hooks, and BEATS. They sound like no one but themselves.

So, go pick up their new album, Merriweather Post Pavilion. You will either LOVE it, of hate it.

BEN HARPER at St. Andrew's Hall, Detroit...

5.15.2009

HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY, BROTHER!
This year Mike took SuSu on the road to celebrate the big day. Here is what he learned...

Rum - it doesn't have to taste like crap!

Zacapa, of Guatemala.  The best rum I've ever tasted.  In fact, the first rum I've ever enjoyed.  Find a bottle and enjoy on the rocks.  Don't fuck around - get the 23 anos shit, and don't mix it w/ coke or juice or any other nonsense.  Not necessary.  I guess it's made w/ pure cane sugar and not molasses, is the reason it's good, or something.  Whatever - it's sure to be my drink of choice for the summer.  Liquid crack, it is.

Abuelo, of Panama - also pretty decent.

5.12.2009

Our good friend Rod at SnoLoha is running what I think is a GREAT promotion...

It’s a Karma Thing

When you spend at least $20.00 on Snoloha gear (which is not hard to do), I’m gonna send you a shirt to donate however you please…a local Salvation Army, Goodwill, a friend that’s fallen on hard times or someone who simply needs a little pick me up.

The idea being to put a smile on someone’s face and a fresh, clean shirt on their back.

Be sure to check it out HERE and order a new CONTRAST t shirt, or pint glass. Designed by yours truly.

5.5.2009

F.Y.I. The Royal Oak Brewery finally got a cask!
And I designed a poster to prove it...

4.10.2009

OPENING DAY! As some of you know, I love opening day...
After dropping three of four on the road to begin the season, the Tigers bounced back in a big way in their home opener. Miguel Cabrera led the charge with six RBIs, including his second career grand slam and first with Detroit.

My beloved Detroit Tigers beat Texas 15-2 on an absolutely perfect day.

3.18.2009

OPENING DAY promotion poster for the Detroit Beer Co...

I'll see you there, before and after the game.

NEW! graphics for SnoLoha...

This time, Rod went with a slightly different approach. Allowing you, the viewers at home to vote for your favorite design. With just over 50% of the votes, the “Contrast” design ran away with it. So, be sure to check out SnoLoha to buy this, and many other GREAT designs. OR, check out my SnoLoha designs HERE and tell Rod which ones you want.

ALSO, because I've been taking some of Rod's blog medicine, and have been a complete slacker when it comes to updates...
I forgot to CONGRATULATE Rod, as many of you know, Snoloha was the 2007 winner for Most Slacker-Friendly business. This year, according to Rich Sloan, co-founder of StartupNation, there were thousands of contestants vying for recognition as one of America’s top home-based businesses.

I’m proud to announce that SnoLoha was a top ten winner in the Most Slacker-Friendly category and in the Highest Vote-Getters category. Way to go, slacker.

Brilliant show as always. We had a blast with a huge, fun crew from Warrior.
Also, be sure to check out Dan Auerbach's new solo album, Keep It Hid. Really great stuff.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMA!

1.1.2009

WELCOME to my online portfolio!

2008 was another incredible year... I turned the dreaded 30. GASP! Attended LOTS of weddings (nine total, including my own), which gave me lots of opportunity to see some of the greatest friends anyone could ask for. When I wasn't dressed like a penguin, I had the opportunity to travel to some amazing places, see some amazing shows, drink from Lord Stanley's Cup, learn to featherbowl, and grow a ridiculous mustache for the entire month of MOvember.

2008 will of course be remembered for the election of Barack Obama. I have never seen so much energy directed toward something like this election in all my life. It was amazing seeing so many young people finally wake up and get involved. I only hope this is just a start and we will only see more and more young people take up their civic duty and not only vote but contribute to the electoral process in this county.

OK, OK... No more politics...
I continued to create exciting graphics for freelance clients, The Royal Oak Brewery and Detroit Beer Co., as well as SnoLoha and the Marina Life. 2009 introduced some new clients, such as Group 45, The Michigan Sled Dogs, and Huntington Real Estate. Full time, I am a designer at the WARRIOR WOODSHED, where a select few of us have the absolute privilege of providing true innovation and implementing advanced product development for WARRIOR SPORTS, as well as BRINE.

Thank you for your time in reviewing my site. If you have any comments, I'd love to hear them.

Sincerely,

Joseph Gabry
